They put so much life into their performances
She was working it!
should be a major broadway star in the league of Elaine Page Merman Verdon Buckley LuPone except better -----heart humility craft compassion
I worked with Miss Loudon in the mid-80s when she graciously donated her talent to appear in a benefit performance for the Off-Broadway L.O.O.M. (Light Opera of Manhattan) at Playhouse 91 in New York. She was a delight in person - as bright and bubbly and as funny and friendly as you think she would be from seeing her on stage. ❤
42:05 This is what you came for
Absolutely priceless recording
I wonder what they thought of the version of lately. They must giggle and say, we sis that way before you!! Its really our song!! lol
Wow , what an amazing voice P N had , what depth , tone & strength
Beyond incredible!!!
❤❤❤❤
Sondheim was always prescient. That's why he was rarely popular after writing the lyrics to 'West Side Story,' which he later claimed never to have liked. In fact, in an ABC interview, he said: "My 'West Side Story' lyrics are embarrassing."
Originally broadcast live on The Bell Telephone Hour (NBC) on Sunday, February 27, 1966, the program entitled "The Lyrics of Alan Jay Lerner." Broadcast from Brooklyn One studio.
Only One Sir Harry Seccombe
well Hello Aunt Carol; when she came to visit, I would goad her into doing some of her routines when we'd go out and eat, the restaurant would go quiet
At my high school graduation in 1967, my class sang the Impossible Dream. Somehow, we pulled it off.
❤❤ brilliant ❤❤❤❤
This is better than I thought it would be seeing that it only ran 68 performances.
This is the single best sung version of the sung I’ve ever heard. And she’s very witty and moving on top of that. Very underrated singer.
I saw June Bronhill in The Merry Widow in London when I was a teenager. I never forgot her beautiful voice. So sad that she went deaf in later years.
Brava Erin👏👏 Erin
Choreographer Michael Bennett, music arranger Marvin Hamlisch, and a couple of the dancers worked together again a few years later on a show called "A Chorus Line," which might not have existed if it hadn't been for this show.
It's always thrilling to have a cast album come to life, even if it's only one number. Thanks, Ed Sullivan!
Simply a dream cast: A brilliant comedienne and a stately, solid baritone. Very clever songs, too. One in particular: "Wait 'Till We're Sixty-five." Just listen to that one today!!! Glad I saw the original production!
So great that this whole musical is available to us.
I knew they'd screw up the movie version. Should have cast Jessica Lange and Jennifer Jason Leigh.
Two greats: Beatrice Arthur and Dorothy Loudon.
I saw it at the Alexandra Theatre Birmingham......Roy Castle was already Very ill, but at curtain call, sir Harry brought him forward for a single curtain.....re the song.......we could do with a world of "Pickwick's"at the moment.....then we might get them all together at a summit a "Pickwick Picnic "....That would make this world Utopian.....and sir Harry.....I haven't forgotton the shaving brush!!!!!!!!
On the S. S. Bernard Cohn Number, I realize this was staged for TV, but the choreography makes them all look kinda spastic. The point in which all 4 of them are kicking in unison is amazing, but the dancers are all over the place and they are all suppose to be on a boat. Really no indication of that suggested in the choreography. This number was cut in the movie. The revival with Harry Connick Jr and Jesse Mueller staged the number as if they were definitely on a boat.
Rarely have I heard such raw vocal power! Mesmerizing!
I never had even heard of John Cullum before Northern Exposure. I'm glad to have come across more of his work. He is an amazing Talent.
Sorry, Barbara, it's with which, not from which. But I still love you.
Patricia Neway was the greatest even though she didn't modulate after the second bridge like she did on the recording. But still the best version. Another great LIVE performance was by the late Celene Pérez who sadly passed in 2020.😢 ua-cam.com/video/aDndAyyVhco/v-deo.htmlsi=ExOcTqeGh7ZXo3jt
Remember Alberich? Funny!
I would very much like to see this entire show. Is the whole thing available online.
Yep. Search for "Pacific Overtures 1976"
Yes, look up Pacific Overtures 1976 original broadway and you should see it as one of the first videos.

I was a month old!
Priceless and magical. There will never be a level of professionalism like this wonderful gathering of talent.
❤❤❤genial
Every time I see performances from this play, tears come to my eyes. I saw this twice at Starlight Musicals in Indianapolis many years ago. Richard Kiley played the lead the first time, Hal Linden the second.
Very funny, never heard of Anna Russel before and very glad to be introduced to her. Thank you!
God, the Impossible Dream is such an amazing otherworldly song. As if it came directly from heaven.
Is it from The Arcadians?
Bea Arthur seems to want to control Dorothy and the moment a little too much.
My father's favorite musical!
The cup of tea chorus line skit had me falling off my chair, she really was a comedic genius. Thank you for posting this treasure!
This is magnificent! Yull Brynner, you're always in our hearts.
Cannot make out a word this man is saying!
Patricia Morison was soooooo much better than the dreadful squeaker Kathryn Grayson in the film version.Alfred Drake would have matched Howard Keel too, in every department, including the tights
Patrícia Morison should have made the movie with Howard Keel instead of Kathryn Grayson.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I love quirky movies!!! My favorite Barbara Harris movie is "Nice Girls Don't Explode"!!! Kudos if you have seen it!!!
